This is a carved soapstone burner with lid.  You can burn the following types of incense in this holder - stick, cone, resin, herbs, powders all with a charcoal disc, smudge sticks.  Be careful when using charcoal as it can make the dish hot so be sure the charcoal is completely out and cool before handling the burner.
